OUTDOOR SCHOOL

Check out our new DIY resources!

We've updated our program services to help Oregon schools make the most of available Measure 99 grant funding this year:

1

We’re making our field study kits available on a rental basis for schools considering or planning a do-it-yourself outdoor school session this spring (with classroom teachers, chaperones, or high school counselors leading the learning activities). Each kit includes consumable and durable materials, a comprehensive lesson plan, and a how-to video for educators. There are dozens of field studies and “lodge lessons” (indoor/outdoor activities ) to choose from, and we’ve created separate versions of each lesson for various ecoregions in Oregon, from the Coast to the Blue Mountains.

 2

In addition to the pre-recorded video instructions, which can be shared with the adults and/or high school students who will facilitate your outdoor school program, our staff is available to lead one or more in-person training sessions at your school or at the outdoor school location for an additional cost.

3

We can also provide an experienced naturalist with expertise in the subject matter for each field study upon request. Our naturalists serve as interpretive "guides on the side" during the field studies to support your educators and assist with the students’ investigations of the natural world.

We ask that schools book their lodging and meals directly with a camp or park facility. Upon request, we’d be happy to e-introduce you to the staff at one of our program facility partners who can help you reserve accommodations and develop a meal plan. Or you’re welcome to reserve the camp or park facility of your choice!

See the pricing information below and our 2026-27 Outdoor School Resource Guide for a list of available field study kits and lesson plans. Each kit includes consumable and durable supplies for up to 36 students. (Field journals are an additional cost; see below.). We recommend including 9-12 lessons to meet the 18 instructional hours required for outdoor school grant funding. To view a sample lesson plan see the link below.
